Fri. 1 June. David’s Presidents Night
42 People attended David’s President Night at the Falmouth Beach Hotel
David, seen here with wife Margaret and granddaughter Eden, convinced us that he did have a good time even though the look on his face would suggest otherwise.

Amongst the guests was District Governor Graham(right) with his wife Diane, both are members of the Penzance Rotary Club
As per the club’s tradition David was serenaded by a group of members masquerading as hotel waiters (David is General Manager of the hotel). The song “Old Man Glover” would not have won any prizes in a choral competition and all attending were relieved that the excellent dinner was served by real waiters.
Sat 28 April 2007 Stroke Awareness Day
For the forth year running The Stroke Association and Rotary Clubs throughout England and Wales have worked together to test thousands of people’s blood pressure. Our Stroke Awareness Day took place at the Asda Supermarket, Penryn where we checked 114 people. Of these 25% were found to have above average blood pressure and were advised to see their doctor. Of these, 3 people were found to be very high and advised to seek urgent medical attention. Our findings support the statistics for the South West wher the percentage of population with high blood pressure is 25%. The figure for the rest of the UK is 23%. This year for the first time, and by popular demand ,we made collection tins available and people donated £77.00 which will be forwarded to The Stroke Association to help in their fight against Strokes. Our thanks to the public who donated and our thanks to the nurses who gave up their time to support us.
April 10. 2007. The club was pleased to welcome Philip Black of the Institute of Cancer Research who gave an interesting talk on The Institute and its connection with Rotary.
Philip was handed the presentation cheque for £1000 which was raised at our Flower Demonstration on 26 November 2006.

Tuesday 5 December
Here is something of a record for Penryn Rotary Club. Five new members in the first half of Rotary year. On 5th December 2006 David Glover, President of the club, inducted Jim Henderson into Rotary. David also introduced him as a friend of some years standing. Jim who lives with his wife and family in Penryn, would have loved to have joined Rotary some years ago, but as is often the case, his work as a Typesetter in the Printing industry meant much traveling, which precluded him from many local activities

Thursday 26th October
Flower Demonstration and Children’s Painting Exhibition and Competition.
This event was hosted by the club to raise funds for Cancer Research.
We were delighted to welcome International Flower Designer and Demonstrator David Ragg to the event. An audience of 119 people at the Falmouth Beach Hotel enjoyed an outstanding illustration of just what can be achieved from the basic materials to the final designs.
David, who has won a number of gold medals at Chelsea and was this years gold medal and best in show winner, was quick and entertaining making the intricate designs look easy, he also entertained us with anecdotes of his experiences in various competitions and world wide demonstrations.
One one occasion when he was demonstrating in China, he was provided with 30 helpers
On this occasion though he had only two helpers, Rotarian Allan Phillips and his wife Jackie, of Jackie Phillips Flowers who had arranged and sponsored the event.

David’s designs together with a cake and some paintings which had been donated, were auctioned off in a light hearted manner by Rotarian Frank Dew. Frank pretended to know what he was doing but really didnt, however he managed to get through to the amusement of all. The auction raised £375.00

Alltogether the evening raised £1000 for Cancer Research and the cheque for this amount will be presented at a later date.

Our thanks to those who donated items for the auction, Mark Littlejohn, Arcs of Fire Gallery, and Rotarian Graham Hickman.
Tuesday 19th September
We were pleased to welcome District 1290 Assistant District Governor Ken Edmonds to our club on one of his official visits. Unfortunately roadwork's into Falmouth caused him to be half an hour late arriving for the meal. This did nothing to detract from his welcome by the Club President and members. In his short address, he congratulated the club on it’s turn around in encouraging four new members into Rotary International, and hoped the club would go from strength to strength
Tue 12 September
Yet again Penryn Rotary President inducts another member making it the fourth member for this Rotary year. He is Brian Farrier, a past member and past president of the club, left the Falmouth six years ago to live in Ludlow, Shropshire. Brian and his wife Monica has come to their senses at last and returned into the folds of Cornwall to live. Monica has also rejoined the Penryn Inner Wheel Club.
Tuesday 5th September
O n the 5th September President David inducted our third new member for this Rotary Year.
He is Nick Annear who is a manager for The Falmouth Beach resort Hotel. Introduced by the President himself, who said he has known Nick for five or six years and felt he has the right qualities to be an excellent Rotarian

Most of the club and their partners enjoying a BBQ at the home of David and Margaret Glover. The President, being a Master Chef found it easy to cook for a few hungry members, he even had time to chat or was he handling complaints? Penryn Rotary Club Handover
Forty-two members and guests sat down for a meal at St. Michael’s Hotel, Falmouth before the ceremony of handing over the Chain of Office to the incoming club president for the Rotary year 2006-2007. George Abbott is seen welcoming the new President - David Glover into Office. David is General Manager of The Falmouth Beach Hotel Resort, which is to be the venue for next year’s District Conference. He has been a Rotarian for a number of years and should have taken office much earlier but owing to pressure of business he had to pass the honour on, until he felt the time was right to be able to devote more of his energies into leading the club.
